Learning visit to icipe and agri- tech transfer processes

Description

1.    Background and Rationale

Mozambique’s participation in the Partnership for Skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET), through the Regional Scholarship and Innovation Fund (Rsif), reflects a strong commitment to building its human capacity and support research and innovation across their university’s ecosystems. To date, Rsif has awarded 302 PhD scholarships, including 40 sponsored by Mozambique—32 of which are held by Mozambican nationals. Furthermore, 64 research and innovation grants have been issued, with 14 being awarded to Mozambican higher education and research institutions.

Following an assessment of the innovation ecosytem of Mozambican higher education institutions and research centres which highlighted gaps in the Intellectual Property and agri-innovation frameworks of the institutions.  Four participating institutions have requested for a learning visit to icipe to interact with researchers in agri-innovation and their industry partners.

This two-day capacity-strengthening activity shall be focused on experiential sharing and on-site observations and learning on the innovation process and commercialization of research results in relation to agricultural technology and innovations.

2.    Target participants

The learning visit will bring together 10-12 faculty members and key personnel responsible for advancing agri-innovation and technology transfer from the following Mozambican Institutions

  • Higher Polytechnic Institute of Manica (ISPM)
  • Higher Polytechnic Institute of Gaza (ISPG)
  • University Pungue (UNIPUNGUE)
  • Mozambique Agricultural Research Institute (IIAM)
  • University Eduardo Mondlane ( UEM)

2.    Expected Outcomes

Participants will gain hands-on insights into icipe’s agri- innovation and technology transfer processes, enhancing their ability to strengthen similar structures in their home institutions.
